2024 Election in Ghana: Symbolic Meaning of NDC’s No. 8 on the Ballot Paper
Ahead of Ghana’s 2024 elections, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has picked the No. 8 spot on the ballot paper. The number has been described as symbolic for the party and its flag bearer, John Dramani. Mahama.
The NDC’s 24-hour economy policy is expected to create a 3-shift, 3-job, and 3-work system, which will lead to three-work 8 hours in each 24 hours fits perfectly into the 8th spot on the ballot paper. Thus 8+8+8 = 24 hours.
The ruling NPP and its flagbearer are in a tight campaign corner due to their breaking the 8 slogan they started over three years ago. Today, with the main opposition NDC party taking over the 8th spot on the ballot for election 2024, the NPP cannot attempt to use the Breaking The 8 slogan. An attempt will mean the NPP will be indirectly campaigning for the NDC. It is interesting to note that number 8 means Resurrection and Regeneration which is what the NDC has been preaching as RESET.
The Breaking the 8 slogan by the NPP seemed to have been a prophetic message favouring the NDC now. The NPP lost hold of the Breaking the 8 just after the cedi to dollar rate crossed the $1 to GHS8.00 month.
For the NDC, the 8th position on the ballot paper is also prophetic. The NDC and its members believe John Dramani Mahama’s 8th position on the ballot means he is winning the election to complete his 8 years of two terms as president of Ghana. They also argue that the 8th means he will break the NPPs 8 years of mismanagement, corruption, and the destruction of the Ghanaian economy.
It is by no chance that Breaking the 8 and Breaking the 8 are trending today at the time of filing this report.
Sammy Gyamfi, a legal practitioner, politician, and National Communications Officer of the NDC, reacting to the 8th position of the NDC on the ballot paper, described the slot as a number of new beginnings that Ghana needs through the NDC to reset Ghana. He added that the number also meant God has ordained John Mahama to serve the people of Ghana as president for 8 years. He furthered that John Mahama will also end 8 years of the NPP’s mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy under President Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia.
