2024 US Elections: Biden Set To Debate Trump In Court House?
This Is An International News About The 2024 US Elections – Biden Set To Debate Trump In Court House Ahead Of November Polls?
Joe Biden stated Friday that he is prepared to face off against his White House competitor Donald Trump in a presidential debate, with the Republican, who is embroiled in numerous criminal cases, asking that the discussion take place immediately inside a New York courthouse.
For decades, candidate debates have been pivotal in US presidential elections, influencing voters’ perceptions of the competitors’ personal style and attitude as well as their policy credentials.
However, Biden’s staff has been hesitant to commit to the practice, which is typically held in front of an audience and moderated by a well-known journalist, for months.
“I am happy to debate him,” Biden told radio host Howard Stern Friday. “I am, somewhere. I don’t know when,” he said.
Trump responded swiftly, saying he was willing to debate “crooked Joe Biden… ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE.”
Trump, who accuses Biden of manipulating the legal system to sabotage his presidential campaign, has proposed conducting the discussion at one of his campaign rallies in Michigan next week, possibly as early as Friday evening.
In a tweet on his Truth Social platform, Trump lamented that he is “stuck in one of the many Court cases that (Biden) instigated as ELECTION INTERFERENCE AGAINST A POLITICAL OPPONENT – A CONTINUING WITCH HUNT!”
He went on to say: “In fact, let’s do the Debate at the Courthouse tonight – on National Television, I’ll wait around!”
Biden, who has described Trump as a threat to democracy, told reporters last month that any agreement to debate the real estate magnate “depends on his behavior.”
The independent Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) has already scheduled three debates between Trump and Biden at US campuses around the country in September and October.
However, Trump accused the CPD of being biased against Democrat Joe Biden when, ahead of the 2020 election, it intended to convert a third and final debate to a virtual format because of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Then-President Trump attended the second 2020 debate versus Biden only three days before testing positive for Covid.
Biden has previously stated that he would not participate in another in-person debate with Trump while the Republican remained unwell.
A verbal spar could be a good opportunity for both the 77-year-old former president and the 81-year-old current president to show off their stamina, as Biden is still haunted by Trump’s old “Sleepy Joe” nickname — and Trump was teased online when he appeared to nod off during his criminal trial in New York last week.
In recent US elections, three presidential debates and one vice-presidential debate were held in the closing weeks of the campaign, often in September or October.
The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has announced that the first presidential debate will take place on September 16 at Texas State University, followed by the second on October 1 at Virginia State University and the third on October 9 at the University of Utah.
However, the Trump and Biden camps may agree to determine their own timetable, structure, and moderators—and debate far earlier than normal.
