Baby Delivered After Mother Killed in Israeli Attack in Gaza
Baby delivered after mother killed in Israeli attack in Gaza. The mother was killed alongside her husband and daughter.
Sabreen Al-Sakani, who was killed alongside her husband and daughter in an Israeli attack in Rafah, Gaza, gave birth to a baby girl through emergency C-section.
The strike killed 19 people, including 13 children from a single family, according to Palestinian health officials. The newborn, weighing 1.4 kg, is stable and improving under Dr Mohammed Salama’s care, according to Reuters.
The baby was placed in an incubator, with a tape across her chest reading “The baby of the martyr Sabreen Al-Sakani.” Sakani’s young daughter, Malak, who was also killed in the strike, had planned to name her new sister Rouh, which means spirit in Arabic.
Dr. Salama stated that the baby would be in the hospital for three to four weeks before being released to family. The 13 children and two women were killed in a separate attack on the Abdel Aal family home.
When asked about the casualties in Rafah, an Israeli military spokeswoman indicated that several militant targets in Gaza had been attacked, including military installations, launch points, and armed persons.
Saqr Abdel Aal, a Palestinian man who lost his wife, children, and entire family in the attack, mourned over the body of a kid wrapped in a white shroud, underlining that all the dead were women and children.
Over half of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have taken refuge in Rafah as a result of Israel’s six-month offensive, which has devastated much of the Gaza Strip.
Israel has threatened to launch a ground offensive into the area to destroy Hamas fighters, while US President Joe Biden has encouraged Israel to avoid a large-scale offensive in order to reduce Palestinian civilian losses.
According to Palestinian health officials, over 34,000 Palestinians have been dead in Israel’s assault, which began when Hamas fighters assaulted Israel on October 7, killing around 1,200 people and kidnapping 253.
Israeli military strikes in the Gaza Strip have killed 48 Palestinians and injured 79 others in the last 24 hours, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
According to the Palestinian health ministry, Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank after they allegedly attempted to shoot and stab them.
Abu Jehad, a Gaza City resident sheltering in Rafah with his family, expressed his fear of an Israeli invasion and the possibility of having to flee once more, saying, “We are trapped and everyone awaits his turn to die.”
