Biden Should Withdraw From 2024 Election After Debate – Lloyd Doggett Says
President Joe Biden To Withdraw From 2024 Election After Debate – Lloyd Doggett Asserts With 3 Months To The Elections.
Representative Lloyd Doggett, a blue-district representative from Austin, Texas, stated that Joe Biden’s decision to continue in the campaign after the debate puts him at risk of losing to Donald Trump because the stakes are too high.
Citing President Joe Biden’s dismal debate performance and the fact that Biden “has trailed Donald Trump” all year in polls, Representative Lloyd Doggett, a Democrat from Texas, became the first sitting Democrat in Congress to demand that Biden withdraw from the 2024 presidential contest.
“Our primary consideration must be who stands the best chance of protecting our democracy from an authoritarian takeover by a criminal and his gang. Too much is at stake to risk a Trump victory—too huge a risk to believe that what could not be turned around in a year, what could not be turned around during the debate, can be turned around now,” Doggett said in a statement Tuesday.
“President Biden preserved our democracy by rescuing us from Donald Trump in 2020. He must not send us to Trump in 2024.” While many Democrats have quietly expressed reservations or urged anonymously that Biden abandon the race, Doggett, who is 77, is the first to do so publically. He represents a blue district in Austin, Texas, and has been in Congress since 1995. “I represent the heart of a congressional district once represented by Lyndon Johnson,” Doggett said later.
“Under very different circumstances, he made the difficult decision to withdraw.” President Joe Biden should do the same.” “I hope he will make the tough and difficult decision to withdraw. “I respectfully ask him to do so,” he said.
While the president and his team are adamant that he will remain in the campaign and be the party’s 2024 nominee, it is unclear whether — or how many — Democrats will follow suit. According to a representative of the Biden campaign, the president is “staying in” and other Democrats, such as Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer of New York, have backed Biden with professions of support.
Doggett stated that he thinks President Biden has “achieved much for our country at home and abroad,” but he also noted that “he pledged to be transitional, even though much of his work has been transformational.” He has the chance to inspire the next wave of leaders from whom a nominee could be selected in an inclusive, democratic process to bring our nation together.
In important states, President Biden has lagged behind Democratic senators and has lagged behind Donald Trump in the majority of polls. It was my hope that the debate would give that some much-needed impetus. It didn’t.
Doggett added, “The President failed to effectively defend his many accomplishments and expose Trump’s many lies, instead of reassuring voters.” He maintained that the challenge of unseating Trump is now even more pressing in light of the Supreme Court’s immunity verdict.
“This week, with the Supreme Court establishing ‘a law-free zone around the President,’ Trump, newly endowed with immunity, may lead the country into a protracted, dark, authoritarian period unfettered by the courts or a docile Republican Congress,” Doggett stated.
