Ecuador’s youngest mayor Brigitte García shot dead along side her communications director. The lively 27-year-old mayor and her communications director were found dead in her car in San Vicente on Sunday. The late Brigitte García won her mayoral election at San Vicente last year.
As of now, no official arrests have been made regarding the death of Brigitte García and her communications director. Brigitte García is the latest youngest politician to be murdered in Ecuador. Last year, presidential candidate, Fernando Villavicencio was murdered for unknown reasons.

The dead bodies of Brigitte García and her communications director were spotted on Sunday in their rented car. According to the local police, the shots from the gun were fired inside the vehicle they were in.
Brigitte García was a nurse who was elected as the mayor of San Vicente last year for Citizens Revolution Party. The 26 year old met her untimely death alongside her communications director. San Vicente is a town in Manabí.
Ms Garcia is not the only politician to be murdered in Manabi. Manabi, alongside with other coastal regions have been linked to the smuggling of cocaine, and other gang violence.
Last year July, Port City mayor, Agustin Intriago, was murdered by a gunman. Same last year, February, Omar Menendez, mayoral candidate was murdered in cold blood in Puerto Lopez just hours before the election polls.

Presidential candidate, Fernando Villavicencio, was murdered in August while he was leaving a rally in Quito. According to prosecutors, the murder of the presidential candidate was predetermined by Los Lobos criminal gangs in jail.
The intense rise of gang violence and murder of official members of the states, led to the declaration of state of emergency by President Daniel Noboa in January 2024. Per reports from the government, the state of emergency have helped capture about 10,000 suspects involved in gang violence.
However, citizens have show their furious and angry mood towards the dissatisfaction from the government upon the murder of Ms Brigitte Garcia and her communications director on Sunday in Manabi. These citizens are highly urging the need for raised security in the country and also security for government officials as well.
Ecuador is considered to be currently unsafe due to the high spike in gun and gang violence. Murder at every corner of Ecuador, with the inclusion of mass violence. Ms Louisa Gonzalez, the presidential candidate who was defeated by current President Daniel Noboa in the elections shared on X, formerly Twitter that, “Nobody is safe in Ecuador”
Upon the sad news about the murder of Ms Brigitte Garcia, the former presidential candidate, Louisa have expressed total dissatisfaction with the government of President Daniel Noboa. She also added that, these murderers do not fear God and have no pity, hence, the killing of elected officials day in and day out.
President Daniel Noboa is yet to release a statement on the murder of Ms Brigitte Garcia and her director.
