Reposting of GES Teachers, Brouhaha
The Keta Municipal Education Office has directed all teachers who were reposted within the district, thus from one school to another in the Keta Municipality, to return to their previous schools, as directed by the GES in a resent communication. It added that teachers who were posted from other districts into the Keta Municipal are exempted from this.
2024 BECE marking end date and results release date
The 2024 BECE marking is expected to be completed by 11th October, with BECE results projected to be released by the end of October 2024 or early November.
NOVDEC registration and examination timetable
WASSCE for private candidates (NOVDEC) registrations closes on 30th September 2024, with the examination expected to start by mid-November 2024. Candidates are to expect the release of the examination timetable for the 2024 NOVDEC by the end of September 2024.
University of Ghana postpones 2024/2025 academic year
The University of Ghana has postponed the projected start date for the 2024-2025 academic year as a result of the ongoing strike by unions. The university furthered that it will announce a new date for the start of the academic year.
The strike involves key unions, including the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG). Their coordinated industrial action has severely affected operations at the university, leading to the postponement.
Ghana Teacher Prize
The 2024 Ghana Teacher Prize will be held on 5th October 2025. The program will award teachers across diverse fields and departments for the immense contribution to education in Ghana in the year under review. The day is however not a public holiday. This means public basic and senior high schools will be in session while the national program is being held.

President Akufo Addo was at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he informed the world that Ghana’s flagship Free Senior High School (SHS) policy has served as a transformative initiative. He added that the Free SHS has some benefitted 5.7 million young people in Ghana. However, Prof. has called on the government to relook at the Free SHS policy in its current state. In his view, the free SHS is producing poor-quality graduates who cannot solve simple algebraic questions in mathematics, although the students enter the university with A1s in mathematics and other core subjects.
