UPDATE: Ghana Set To Launch 5G Network Today, More Details

Ghana To Launch 5G in November 2024 as stated by the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Honourable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful last month.

The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, said on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, that the 5G network will be launched in November 2024. She announced this in an interview with Kwame Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Show.

When revealing the launch date, she stated that the necessary gadgets and structures had been received and set up for launch. Additionally, the government announced its plans earlier this year to launch 5G services by the end of 2024.

Initially, the Minister announced that the 5G network would be launched in September but was scheduled for November 1, 2024. The 4G network was launched in Ghana nine years ago. Even after launching the 4G network, the majority of Ghanaians still uses 3G networks. Hence, the 4G network has a penetration rate of 15%.

In the next three years, the government plans to increase the penetration rate of the 4G network to 80% through the Next-Gen Infrastructure Company (NGIC). Additionally, it has plans to widen the services of the 4G and 5G network as it aims to establish 4,400 4G and 5G sites to raise the internet speed in the country.

Ghana To Launch 5G in November 2024: What Is 5G?

Fifth Generation(5G) of Wireless Technology offers a higher internet upload and download speed, and has a stronger connectivity. 5G networks are reliable and are the successors of the 4G network. 5G run on the same frequencies just like 3G, 4G and 4G LTE.

Also, the 5G is ten times faster than the 4G network. According to the Minster of Communications and Digitalisation, the launch of the 5G network will increase the connectivity for Ghanaians. This is also a step into the digital world.

The 5G network is set to be launched today, November 1, 2024.
