Harris team and White House to distance herself from Biden

According to three individuals familiar with the situation, the White House and Vice President Kamala Harris’s team have been in regular communication about Harris strategy to create some distance herself from President Joe Biden while still showing her overall loyalty to him.
This context is why Biden’s remarks on Tuesday night, suggesting that Harris would “cut her path,” set the stage for her to assert during a Fox News interview on Wednesday that her presidency, if elected, would not be a “continuation” of his, according to these sources.
No one in the White House was taken aback by those comments, as one source noted that discussions had taken place privately before the Fox interview.
This individual mentioned that Biden has been clear that Harris should do “whatever it takes” to secure a win and that he recognizes she embodies a new generation of leadership.
Meanwhile, the Harris campaign has acknowledged the need to refine Harris’s responses from last week when she was asked how her approach would differ from Biden’s if she were elected, and what changes she would implement in her administration.
During the Fox interview, she talked about how her approach to leadership might contrast with Biden’s extensive experience in Washington.
“Like every new president stepping into office, I will bring my life experiences, my professional background, and fresh ideas,” Harris told Bret Baier. “For instance, I am someone who hasn’t spent the majority of my career in Washington.”
Harris’ team informed the White House that she would likely expand on her earlier remarks from “The View” and “Late Night with Stephen Colbert” during the Fox interview, which allowed Biden to share his thoughts the day before, according to two sources.
NBC News was the first to report that Harris’ campaign was looking into ways to create some distance from Biden following criticism regarding her interviews.
On Tuesday, Biden referenced his own time as President Barack Obama’s vice president to explain why Harris might create more separation between them in the final stretch of the race.
“Every president has to carve out their path. That’s what I did. I was loyal to Barack Obama, but I established my direction as president,” Biden said. “She’s been loyal so far, but she’s going to carve out her path.”

Recent reports indicate that Harris is struggling to maintain the support of black male voters and Hispanic voters in crucial swing states, a situation her campaign is urgently trying to rectify. As a last-ditch effort, they may promise voters a completely new approach if Harris is elected.
According to the latest polling data, Donald Trump is gaining ground in the US elections, which poses a significant concern for the Democrats. Nevertheless, Harris and her team have just over two weeks to devise new strategies to gain an advantage over the Republicans.
