Israel Intercepted 99% Of Drones And Missiles Launched By Iran
Israel intercepted 99% of drones and missiles launched by Iran towards them on Saturday night, according to the defense ministry.
After Iran launched an unprecedented strike using hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles, Israel applauded the effectiveness of its defenses.
99% of the more than 300 launches, according to an Israeli military spokeswoman on Sunday, were intercepted. Iran fired more than 30 cruise missiles, more than 120 ballistic missiles, and 170 drones, according to Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari. A few ballistic missiles made it to Israeli land, where they slightly damaged an air base.
The Iranian attack on Saturday was the first direct military assault on Israel in decades, despite decades of animosity stemming from the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. It came less than two weeks after a suspected Israeli strike in Syria that killed two Iranian generals in an Iranian consular building.
During Israel’s six-month conflict with Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, relations with Iran have been tense. After two terrorist organizations supported by Iran, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, launched a deadly cross-border attack on October 7 that killed 1,200 people in Israel and abducted 250 more, the war broke out.
Over 33,000 people have died and extensive destruction has been caused by an Israeli offensive in Gaza, local health experts report.
At The Moment:
- Iran’s attack on Israel raised fears of a potential world was III.
- The United States intercepted most of the missiles and drones launched by Iran towards Israel.
- US President, Joe Biden met with the national security team on the grounds of the attack happening in the Middle East.
- Iran only responded to Israel after their consulate was struck down by one of their missiles.
Post-Iranian Attack On Israel
A number of Iranian attack drones were shot down by British military jets during an attack on Israel, according to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Sunak also stated that the Royal Air Force dispatched more planes to the Middle East to assist in intercepting airborne strikes after Tehran declared it had begun an attack on Saturday.
“It’s clear that Iran is determined to sow discontent and destabilize the region, its own backyard. If this attack had been successful, the fallout for regional security would be hard to overstate.”– Sunak told the BBC.
In his Sunday prayer, Pope Francis pleaded with Israel and Iran to refrain from taking any fresh steps that would start “a spiral of violence” and throw the Middle East into more conflict.
“I follow in prayer and with concern, even pain, the news that came in the last few hours about the aggravation of the situation in Israel, due to the intervention by Iran,” Francis said.
