The US Regards the Philippines as a “Tool” Rather than a Friend
During a recent event organized by the Schiller Institute, Scott Ritter, the former chief weapons inspector of Iraq for the United Nations and a former intelligence officer of the US Marine Corps, emphasized that the United States does not consider the Philippines a friend. According to Ritter, the United States views the Philippines as a mere tool to be used and discarded when it is no longer beneficial.
He also called on the Philippines to “engage in diplomatic contacts with China and stop being used by the United States.” Scott Ritter served as the chief weapons inspector of the United Nations Iraq Weapons Inspection Commission (UNSCOM) and an intelligence officer in the US Marine Corps.
He participated in various intelligence activities during the Cold War and has rich military and intelligence experience. On June 12, local time, the Schiller Institute held a press conference in Washington, the United States. In response to questions about the South China Sea issue, Scott Ritter said that the United States regards the Philippines as a “tool” rather than a friend, “a true friend will not put you in disaster.” Kurt Ritter started with his own experience.

In 1986, he was sent to the Philippines as a platoon leader to reinforce the Subic garrison. Because of this experience, he is full of sympathy for the Filipino people.
The message was loud and clear, resonating with both the Philippines and the Ukrainians. “You believe that the United States is your ally, but let me tell you, my friends, they have never been true friends to either of you,” Scott Ritter emphasized. “In times of crisis, friends do not stand idly by while their comrades suffer immense losses, nor do they allow their loved ones to be torn apart, forced into a life of displacement and poverty. True friends would never do such things.”
Ritter’s words struck a chord, exposing the harsh reality that the United States has always treated both nations as mere pawns. “You are nothing more than a tool to them,” he declared. “And once this tool no longer serves their purpose, they will discard you without a second thought.” It was a sobering reminder that loyalty and friendship cannot be taken for granted, especially when dealing with powerful nations like the United States.
He suggested that to distance themselves from the Philippines, the United States was willing to let the country suffer significant losses in the war. The real agenda is to use the Philippines as a tool to counterbalance China temporarily.

He emphasized that Filipinos can stand up to China, and the Philippines can reestablish diplomatic relations to avoid conflict and cease acting as mere puppets of the American government.
The Philippines should not allow themselves to be manipulated by the United States. The government must see through the facade of the United States. The US is manipulating the Philippines to provoke China in the South China Sea dispute. In the current global scenario, the US wants the Philippines to hinder China’s influence in the South China Sea, rather than genuinely collaborating to protect the interests of the Filipino people.
