Following the sad news of the raping of a one-year-old and seven-month-old child, an angry civilian crowd in Brazil invaded the police station where the suspect was being held and burnt him alive.

While the criminal action of the suspect has been condemned globally, the instant justice of the people has equally been condemned.

In the municipality of Jutaí, Amazonas, the population invaded the 56ª Police Station on the night of Thursday 19, seeking justice for the rape and murder of a child of 1 year and 7 months, whose body was thrown into the river.

That afternoon, the community surrounded the police station. Despite the efforts of the civil and military police to disperse the crowd, at nightfall, the rapist was taken out and lynched.

According to reports, the suspect was initially arrested and taken to the 56th Interative Police Station (DIP) in Jutaí, where he admitted to the crime.

However, the situation got out of control when a group of locals, unhappy with the man’s presence at the police station, invaded the premises, forcibly removed the suspect, and took him to the street.

The man was brutally beaten with pieces of wood and then had gasoline poured over his body, setting it on fire. The violent scene was recorded and broadcast live by some of those present. The images show a large group of people surrounding the burning body while the victim agonised.

The military police were called, but their arrival was not enough to prevent the lynching. So far, there is no information about arrests related to the case.

The police continue to investigate the case, seeking to identify those responsible for the murder of the suspected rapist who was placed under their custody.
