We’ll vote against you for burning our Galamsey excavators; don’t dare come and campaign: Galamsey Man fumes
We’ll vote against you; don’t dare come and campaign” This is the latest warning from a man who is engaged in Galemsey to the NPP after his excavator was put on fire.
Following the burning of excavators owned, managed, and operated by Galamseyers (illegal miners), one of the men engaged in the activity whose asset, an excavator, was set on fire has vowed to lead a campaign to help vote against the ruling New Patriotic Party.
In a video sighted by GlobalCurrent24, he threatened to lead his community to vote against the NPP on December 7th, when Ghanaians go to the polls to elect a president and 275 members of parliament.
The burning of excavators and other mining machines used by the illegal miners was started after pressure from labour unions and Ghanaians in general. Rivers, streams, cocoa farms, and Ghana’s vegetation are some of the resources of the country that have been invaded by Galamsey operators in the country. This has affected forest cover, and water bodies and turned many rivers brown-yellow water polluted with mercury and other chemicals.
The government of Ghana is on record as having released hundreds of soldiers and other security officers in the last 72 hours to clamp down on illegal mining.
Galamsey excavator is burnt and the reactions and video
A video shared on X, aka Twitter, showed a sad miner expressing his frustration about the decision of the Akufo Addo government to crack down on the operations of illegal miners. He indicated that he would lead the community to vote against the government in the December 7th elections due to their adverse decision against them.
“The fools among the leaders are too many now. We will stop campaigning for the party. They will do the campaigning themselves with their children. Whether they like it or not, we will vote against them during the general elections. We will not allow them to campaign in this area. Look at what they’ve done to this excavator. Why should they burn it?” he angrily remarked.
In a series of new efforts to stamp out illegal mining, the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners, in collaboration with the military, is combating illegal mining along the Birim River as part of the government’s broader strategy to protect the environment.

This operation aims to tackle the environmental destruction caused by Galamsey, especially the damage to water bodies and farmlands.
In a raid along the banks of the Birim River on Thursday, October 10, 2024, the task force confiscated and destroyed 18 chanfan machines, commonly used for illegal gold extraction.

Additionally, 10 water pumping machines were also destroyed. As part of the expanded “Operation Halt” campaign, more industrial equipment associated with illegal mining was set ablaze.
Ghanaians have charged President Akuffo Addo for failing to show leadership in combating the activities of illegal miners which he promised to deal with by putting his presidency on the line. This, however, has not been the case since 2021.
It is important to remind readers that the Burning of our Galamsey excavators did not start today. It was one of the things done in the past by the government to halt the activity but it did not work.
