What Are The Requirements For Voting In The London Mayoral Election?
What are the requirements for voting in the London Mayoral election with barely two weeks to the scheduled date?
In less than a week, Londoners will vote in the London Mayoral and Assembly elections. There are 13 contenders on the ballot for Mayor of London, a position held by Sadiq Khan since 2016.
Some of the runners and bikers attended a hustings last week, where Labour candidate Mr Khan was heckled by gym teacher Andreas Michli, an independent candidate. Mr Michli, who was in the crowd, was ejected after ranting about adolescent knife violence.
Mr Khan has made council houses and environmental policies the focal points of his campaign, although he admits he is in a worse position than last time as he seeks a third term.
His chances, he claimed, had been harmed by the new first-past-the-post voting method, which was implemented for this election.
According to polls, Mr Khan will face his most serious opposition from Tory candidate Susan Hall, who has promised to repeal the Ultra Low Emission Zone.
The list also includes Lib Dem contender Rob Blackie, who aims to address the capital’s housing issue, and Green candidate Zoë Garbett, who advocates for a flat rate for London Tube and train travels.
There are other candidates from fringe parties, independents, far-right groupings, and the comedic choice Count Binface.
The Mayor of London and London Assembly elections are being held on Thursday, May 2.
