It seems over for Ghana as the Black Stars suffer a crucial 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the AFCON Qualifier, leaving Ghana’s chances slim.
The Black Stars of Ghana have lost the return fixture of the 2025 AFCON qualifier against Sudan in Lybia after drawing at home on Thursday. The Black Stars were hoping to clinch their first win in the AFCON qualifier to improve their chances of qualifying for the African Soccer Showpiece.
On the day, Sudan were the better side in front of goals as they beat the Black Stars 2-0 with all going coming in the second half after a 0-0 draw in the first half of the encounter.
Poor communication and defence at the back of the team caused the team to concede, but this loss brings into question again if Ghana made the right choice by reappointing Atto Addo as the manager of the side.
The Sudanese National Team Coach, who is a Ghanaian and a former coach of the Black Stars, has punished Ghana by beating them in the return leg.
Ghana has had a poor outing in the last two AFCONs and hasn’t been booted out in the group stages. Ghana is out with a very slim chance of qualifying. Ghana would have to win the last two games and also expect Sudan to drop points in their next games to qualify.
The Black Stars started the game as favourites, but in the last four games, Ghana has scored only a goal. Individually, Ghana has the best team in the group, but team-wise, Ghana is not ready for the AFCON.
In the post much interview, Coah Kwesi Appiah said the win was important as it puts a smile on the faces of all Sudanese. He added that he looks forward to a win for Sundan to help the team qualify for the AFCON.

According to him, Ghana has a good team, but since it is a competition, one team had to win, and on the day Sudan made it.
The celebrated sports journalist Kwabena Yeboah said Ghana has never given Kwesi Appiah the needed credit as he deserves, especially if he is the one who helped Ghana qualify for the AFCON in Brazil. He recalled how, under Kwesi Appiah, Ghana beat Egypt 6-0 to qualify Ghana for the World Cup.
