2025 AFCON Qualifiers: ‘Lost Black Stars’ Caged In Libya As Sudan Puts Two Past Them
Sudan 2-0 Ghana as the home side fires two quick and ‘avoidable’ goals past the Black Stars of Ghana in Benghazi, Libya.
The Black Stars of Ghana are on the verge of not qualifying for the 2025 African Cup of Nations, which will be hosted in Morocco, after their 2-0 defeat to Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan.
In case, Ghana does not qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), it will be the country’s first time in 20 years for missing the AFCON tournament. An obvious defeat to Sudan at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium, Benghazi has placed the Black Stars in a world of ‘miracles’ as they maintain their hopes to qualify for the tournament.
Ghana played a goalless draw with the Sudanese side last week at the Accra Sports Stadium as they missed a couple of huge chances to grab the three points at home. The reverse fixture left the nation in shock as the Black Stars conceded two quick goals in the second half of the game.
The first half saw the Sudanese side dominating the game with goal-threatening opportunities, as they attempted 5 goals and had only 3 on target. Although the home side did not dominate a lot of possession in the game, they created a lot of chances that could have changed the scoreline. Ghana did not play any shot on target at the end of the first half as they dominated with 59% possession.
A clear chance to break the deadlock for the Black Stars was missed as Ernest NNuammah and Inaki Williams collided with their heads instead of communicating.
A goal by Inaki Williams was disallowed for offside right into the second half but rather a wrong decision from the linesman. That was a poor decision from the linesman, as Inaki was played onside by the Sudanese player.
The momentum of the game shifted in favour of Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan as they took advantage of their counter-attack in the 62nd minute after a poor clearance from both Alidu Seidu and Gideon Mensah. Quickly after conceding, the Black Stars were again caught on the break as Mohammed Abdel outpaced the Monaco player, Mohammed Salisu to slot the ball pass Ati-Zigi.
Goals from Ahmed Al-Tash and Mohamed Abdel Raman has seen the Sudanese side maintain their second position ahead of their next game against Niger in November 2024.
