Cape Town continues to lead the continent in terms of luxury real estate, with prime residential spaces valued at USD 5,600 per m2, according to a Wealth Report by Henley and Partners.
Grand Baie, Mauritius, is closely behind, with a premium 200–400 square meter flat costing USD 5,000 per square meter. Plettenberg Bay (2,400 per square meter), Hermanus (2,300 per square meter), Umhlanga (2,000 per square meter), and Sandton (1,800 per square meter) are among the five South African cities that rank among the continent’s ten most expensive.
Along with Cairo, the capital of Egypt and one of the biggest cities in Africa, other cities in this exclusive club include Marrakech, Tangier, and Casablanca in Morocco.
Accra, was ranked among the 2024 most expensive cities to live in the world. However, Accra does not rank among the10 most expensive cities in Africa in 2024.
South Africa, has more of its cities among the most expensive cities in Africa. From Cape Town, to Plettenberg Bay, Hermanus, Umhlanga, and Sandton are all the South African cities in the list.
