Billie Eilish Announces New Album: ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ Arrives Next Month
Billie Eilish revealed Monday that her much-anticipated third studio album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” will be released on May 17.
The announcement came via Instagram, where Eilish released the album artwork, which depicted the pop singer floating in a body of water after being ejected from a door. In the caption, she stated that she will not release singles before of the release.
“I wanna give it to you all at once,” she wrote in the post. “I truly could not be more proud of this album.”
Eilish collaborated with her brother and frequent collaborator Finneas on the song “Hit Me Hard and Soft.” The two recently won their second Oscar for their huge “Barbie” ballad, “What Was I Made For?” Eilish, 22, became the youngest person to win two career Oscars.
Earlier this month, Eilish signed a new open letter submitted by the Artist Rights Alliance nonprofit, urging AI tech companies, developers, platforms, digital music services, and platforms to stop using artificial intelligence “to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists,” according to the letter.
According to a press statement from Eilish, all physical copies of “Hit Me Hard and Soft” will have the same tracklist and be composed of 100% recyclable materials.
Who Is Billie Eilish?
Billie Eilish was barely a teenager when her song “Ocean Eyes” went viral. She was born and raised in Los Angeles. Together with her brother Finneas O’Connell, she wrote the songs for the critically acclaimed albums When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and the breakthrough EP Don’t Smile at Me, which made the singer a seven-time Grammy winner before turning twenty. She is well-known for the soundtracks to the Barbie movies, which include “Bad Guy,” “Everything I Wanted,” and “What Was I Made For?” She has received nine Grammy Awards to date.
Awards
2019 saw Eilish win her first significant honors, including Woman of the Year from Billboard, and victories at the MTV Video and American Music Awards. Her major breakthrough, however, occurred at the January 2020 Grammy Awards, where she won Best Pop Vocal Album in addition to Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist, making her the first female artist to do so entirely.
At the 2021 Grammy Awards, Eilish took up two prizes, including Record of the Year for her song “Everything I Wanted.”
In January 2024, Eilish won her second Golden Globe for Best Original Song – Motion Picture for “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie (2023). At the 2024 Grammy Awards, Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, won two awards for Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media. “What Was I Made For?” was nominated and won Best Original Song at the 2024 Academy Awards.
