British Man Seriously Injured in Tobago Shark Attack
International News On The Man Attacked By A Shark In Scarborough – British Man Seriously Injured In Tobago Shark Attack.
A 64-year-old British man is in “critical care” after being attacked by a shark 10 meters off the coast in Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago.
According to Farley Chavez Augustine, Tobago’s Chief Secretary, the guy was attacked on Friday morning local time by what seemed to be a bull shark.
Augustine stated that the victim’s left thigh and left arm from the elbow down were “severed,” and his stomach was lacerated. Some of his fingers were able to be reattached during surgery at Scarborough General Hospital, Augustine said in a press conference late Friday evening.
Despite being in the ICU and sedated, the individual is “stable and doing well,” Augustine stated. The individual is usually sedated since his “wounds will have him in significant pain,” he explained.
A rare shark attack in Sydney Harbour puts swimmers on edge. According to Augustine, the man was on holiday in Tobago with his wife and friends and was set to return to the UK on Friday. The party had intended to go for one last swim before leaving, but the shark attack happened instead.
Trinidad and Tobago Television (TTT) released a video of an eyewitness recounting the event. According to Orion Jakerov, water sports manager at the Starfish Resort, the man was in “waist-deep to shoulder-high water,” with his back to the shark, despite the fact that no one else in the group was aware of its existence.
Jakerov claimed that the individuals with the guy “were trying to physically fight off the shark” when it attacked.
Augustine estimated that the shark was eight to ten feet long. The Tobago House of Assembly announced a $10,000 Trinidad and Tobago Dollar prize (about $1,470 USD) for the successful capture of the shark, but later revoked the award.
Several beaches in the vicinity of the event, including the Buccoo Reef Marine Park, have been temporarily closed, according to officials.
The British High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago issued travel advice following the attack on X, mentioning the closure of the marine park.
