Taylor Swift Reveals ‘Secret’ Double Album In ‘2am Surprise’
Taylor Swift reveals ‘secret’ double album on social media at 2.a.m including a track that was inspired by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
The 34-year-old shockingly revealed on social media at 2 a.m. (roughly 7 a.m. UK time) that The Tortured Poets Department has a second installment.
In her post, she said, “The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. It’s a 2am surprise.” This is the second installment of TTPD because I wanted to share all the tortured poetry I’d written over the past two years with you. The Collection. Fifteen more songs. And now the story is entirely yours; it’s no longer mine.”
The superstar’s 11th studio album, which spans two hours, has a whopping 31 tracks.
In February of this year, Swift revealed the record’s details after winning the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album with Midnights.
She disclosed at the time that Post Malone and Florence + The Machine had collaborated on the new album, which is featured on the songs Fortnight and Florida, respectively.
Swift is said to have included songs on the album about her breakups with Matty Healy of The 1975 and British actor Joe Alwyn, while a song full of allusions to American football is said to have been inspired by her most recent relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce.
With its references to American football terms like “team,” “warm benches,” “winning streak,” and “trophy,” the fifteenth song, “The Alchemy,” seems to be a reference to her relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs star. It also includes the line, “So when I touch down, call the amateurs and cut ’em from the team.”
She started dating the athlete last year, and her appearance at the Super Bowl made headlines all over the world, including her kiss with Kelce after the Chiefs won.
Kelce, who recently landed a role as host of the game show Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?, said he listened to parts of the album and found it “unbelievable”.
So Long, London is ranked fifth on the tracklist – the position reserved for the most meaningful song on each of Swift’s albums – and is thought to shed new light on her split from The Favourite actor Alwyn after six years together.
Swift hints at wedding plans in the lyrics, singing: “You swore that you loved me but where were the clues, I died on the altar waiting for the proof” – as well as being upset about having to leave London, which she said she “loved”.
The album’s title may be a reference to The Tortured Man Club, a WhatsApp group Alwyn previously founded with fellow actors Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal.
