Kevin Durant, a forward for the Phoenix Suns, has frequently been criticized for his body language on the court, but the star has often dismissed those concerns during post-game interviews.

However, there could be something deeper going on. Shortly after the Suns were officially swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves, The Athletic published a report detailing Phoenix’s various problems throughout the season, as well as the job status of players like GM James Jones and HC Frank Vogel.

Part of the report highlighted the various frustrations that players on the team, including Durant, experienced.

“Meanwhile, Durant, one of the best scorers in NBA history, was not always pleased with how he was utilized. According to sources familiar with the situation, Durant never felt at ease with his role in Phoenix’s offense alongside Booker and Beal this season.

“Those sources said Durant had persistent issues with the offense, believing he was being relegated to the corner far too frequently and lacked the proper designs to play to his strengths because the offense was built around pick-and-rolls.” At the same time, some teammates and people close to the organization believed Durant should express his concerns more forcefully and directly to Vogel and his coaching staff.”

Durant has always been someone who will publicly deflect any frustration and position himself to do what is best for the team – and at this point in his career, that is probably the truth.

Kevin Durant wants to add more championships to his resume, and while he’s already established himself as one of the greatest scorers of all time, the Suns could use him more effectively.

Durant will now take some time off before preparing for the Olympics this summer.

“I’m just getting back to the gym, improving my game, and spending time with family and friends. I’m enjoying my time off, but it will be short-lived because Olympic practices begin July 5th. We are going for a month after that, which I am looking forward to. That is essentially what my summer has been about: getting ready for the Olympic Games. “Looking forward to that time,” Durant said following the loss.

The future of Phoenix is extremely hazy in terms of who will and will not be present. Kevin Young, the Suns’ offensive coordinator and assistant coach, has left for BYU, so the offense will look different regardless.

Hopefully, this is good news for Durant and the rest of Phoenix’s stars.
