Toronto Flooding Results In Major Power Outage, As Drake’s Home Falls Victim – 14 Individuals Rescued, As Cleanup Begins.
Record rainfall from three massive storms has flooded areas of Toronto, cut out electricity, and stranded drivers on a main highway across the city. The Canadian Environmental agency revealed that about 10m of rain fell in Toronto yesterday.
This is the first time since 1941, hence a new rainfall record. Images and videos spotted showed significant flooding throughout the city, with cars practically submerged and water rushing down the stairs at Union Station.
Popular musician Drake, released a video on Instagram that appears to show part of his house in Toronto being flooded. Per reports from the Hydro agency in Toronto, the storm affected power outages for at least 167,000 citizens.
Numerous flights were also delayed or cancelled from Billy Bishop Airport, located on Lake Ontario’s Toronto Islands. Flooding closed both sections of the Don Valley Parkway, a major motorway that runs alongside the Don River. Ontario Highway 410 was also blocked, and authorities expect it to remain closed for another day as crews gather for a massive clean up.

According to the local authorities, 14 individuals were rescued, including one who had to be lifted from their car’s roof. Toronto’s fire department received several reports from persons stranded in lifts after significant portions of the city centre lost electricity.
Meteorologists said Tuesday’s record rainfall was the result of three consecutive storms that hit the city. “We had 25% more rain in three hours than we would have had in the entire month of July with all the thunderstorms and systems that moved through,” meteorologist Dave Phillips told local news channel CP24.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority warns that locations near shorelines, rivers, and streams in the city are vulnerable to floods. Toronto has over a dozen rivers and streams, which makes it vulnerable to flooding. According to Olivia Chow, the Mayor for Toronto, she had no idea why the major parkway was not closed in the early hours of the storm. She again added that the city was “massively investing” in clean-up operations to prevent similar catastrophes in the future.
In 2013, Toronto had a severe and costly July storm that left at least 300,000 people without power and required the rescue of over 1,000 passengers from a flooded train.
