2024 New UK Immigration Rules
In 2024, new immigration laws to the UK will be implemented. These laws will raise the salary requirements for skilled workers to £38,700 annually on April 4, 2024, and for spouses to £29,000 annually on April 11, 2024.
They will also place restrictions on the ability of holders of healthcare and care worker visas, as well as international students, to bring their dependents, including partners and children. Additionally, the Shortage Occupation List (SOL) will be reformed, and the 20% “going rate” salary discount for shortage occupations will be eliminated.
UK Skilled Worker Visa – 2024 New Immigration Rules
As on 4 April 2024, the minimum wage needed for a skilled worker visa under the revised immigration regulations for 2024 has raised from £26,200 to £38,700 annually. The income requirement has increased from £26,200 to £29,000 for healthcare workers, which includes doctors, nurses, and caretakers.
It is not necessary for those who get a “going rate” based on a national pay scale in the UK to meet the standards for a median wage. On the other hand, the most recent ONS wage data and national pay scales are used to update the going rates.
New immigration Rules For UK Spouse Visa
Beginning on April 11, 2024, first-time spouse visa applicants will be required to provide evidence that their UK partner earns at least £29,000 under the new immigration laws for the UK. Further rises are predicted to reach £34,500, then £38,700. The timing of future increases has not yet been confirmed. The Spouse Visa minimum income criteria will no longer include a separate child element.
From April 11, 2024, if you rely exclusively on your savings to achieve the Spouse Visa financial requirement, you will need £88,500.
New immigration Rules For UK Student Visa
Starting January 1, 2024, international students studying in the UK will only be eligible to bring their partner and children if they are pursuing a PhD or other doctorate (at RQF level 8) or a research-based higher degree. Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman announced the shift in May 2023.
Under prior guidelines, those on a UK student visa may bring their partner and children. There are no present plans to eliminate the UK Graduate visa, however the policy is being reviewed by the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to avoid abuse and maintain the integrity and quality of UK higher education.
