JUST IN: Huw Edwards Leaves BBC On Medical Advice
Huw Edwards leaves BBC on medical advice after 40 years of serving “Nation shall speak peace unto Nation”
The BBC has announced that presenter Huw Edwards has resigned due to “medical advice”.
Following newspaper reports that claimed he paid a young person for sexually explicit images, the broadcaster has not been on air since July of last year.
He was the most well-known news anchor for the BBC and was frequently selected to lead coverage of significant national events.
“On Monday, Huw Edwards resigned and departed from the BBC,” a brief statement read.
Huw has revealed that, following 40 years of service, he made his decision based on the medical advice he received from his doctors. BBC has acknowledged his resignation.
“The BBC believes that by accepting his resignation, all parties will be able to proceed. We don’t think any more comments are appropriate at this time.
Reason For His Resignation
His wife claimed he was hospitalized for “serious mental health issues” nine months prior to his departure. That came after a report in the Sun newspaper that said a young person, starting when they were 17, was paid by an unidentified BBC presenter for explicit photos.
The young person’s mother and stepfather provided the information for the paper, but a lawyer representing the young person called their account “rubbish” in a letter.
Vicky Flind, the spouse of Edwards, revealed the presenter’s identity in public following days of conjecture.
He had recently received treatment for severe depression, so she claimed that her main motivations for acting were to safeguard their children and his mental health.
Edwards has not made any remarks in public. Since July, he has been on suspension.
Normally, a suspended employee would get their full pay during that time. As the highest-paid newsreader for the company in 2022–2023, he made between £435,000 and £439,999.
Was He Settled After His Resignation?
It has been confirmed by the BBC that Edwards’ departure was not accompanied by any payment.
The Metropolitan Police stated that they had “no information to indicate that a criminal offence has been committed” and therefore declined to prosecute him.
The Welsh broadcaster began his career with BBC News as a trainee in 1984. In 2003, he rose to prominence as one of the main hosts of BBC One’s Ten O’Clock News, which is regarded as the network’s flagship program.
Along with reporting and offering commentary on a number of significant national events, such as general elections, royal weddings, and funerals, he also informed the public of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in 2022.
