WAEC To Provide ‘APOR’ For 2024 WASSCE and BECE Candidates?
Considering the high leakages of WASSCE questions these past years, will there be leakages of 2024 WASSCE and BECE questions?
The 2024 WASSCE and BECE will begin in a few months, as candidates are intensely studying for their examinations. The West African Examination Council (WAEC) is an external examination body responsible for conducting examinations for final-year students in all Anglophone countries in West Africa.
The examination body, which was established in 1952, has since conducted numerous examinations in these Anglophone West African countries: Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Gambia, and Sierra Leone.
On the sensitive topics of ‘examination malpractices’ and ‘leakage of questions’, the integrity of WAEC comes into motion. The integrity, credibility, and fairness of the examining body are crucial for the conduct of the WASSCE and BECE examinations.
The integrity of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) is at risk. Over the past years, there have been a series of leakages of examination questions.
GlobalCurrent24.com has spotted information online about the provision of actual WASSCE, BECE, and NOV/DEC questions to candidates this year. The message was spotted on Telegram and was shared by one Mr. Jones.

“Greetings, my final-year students. I haven’t responded to the majority of your messages because I’ve been offline for a while. I want to let you know that I’ve returned and will be active from now on. Also, this year, all questions (WASSCE, BECE, and NOVDEC) will be available to me.
To those of you who just joined my channel, I’m Mr. Jones. I offer authentic WAEC questions and answers (WASSCE, BECE, and NOVDEC).
Message me on WhatsApp for more inquiries about registration for all papers.”.
The above was the message that was spotted by GlobalCurrent24.com on Telegram. With this, there’s one question that always pops up: Where do these ‘dealers’ get the actual questions from? Before we delve into that, let’s look at the trends in the leakages of WASSCE questions from 2018 to 2022.
In 2018, WAEC withheld the entire results of 26,434 candidates on the grounds of examination malpractice, which included the possession of leaked questions.
In 2019, the situation did not change. The examining body, WAEC Ghana, denied claims of leaked WASSCE and BECE questions after several questions were spotted online.
Well, WAEC couldn’t deny the leakages of questions forever, as things took turns in 2020, when the nation witnessed a massive leakage of questions. The Core Mathematics and Chemistry questions leaked online, and to the extent of a coconut seller selling actual WASSCE questions to his customers, can you imagine? Reports indicated that the WAEC strong room was the source of the examination questions. The leaked question from Core Mathematics paper 2 became viral a day prior to the paper’s publication. Now the question is: how did the question paper move from the strong room to the four walls of social media?
In 2021, the situation still remained the same, as the Food and Nutrition Paper 3 was leaked to the extent of cancellation. How the question paper got leaked is one that you and I have no answers to. 2021 was full of drama as WAEC constantly denied reports of leaked questions raised by EduWatch. WAEC threatened to sue EduWatch, which later agreed to the leakages of papers, which they deemed were not ‘extensively leaked’. Additionally, the physics paper was also leaked widely, to the extent of rescheduling from WAEC alongside Business Management.
In 2022, there were a series of leaked elective and core mathematics questions. The high leakage of these questions led to reports of strict marking during that year.
Now, to the main focus of this context, is WAEC behind the leakages of these questions? If not, then how do these dealers end up getting these questions and spreading them to candidates, to the extent of reaching the open arms of Facebook? Are there insiders at the examiner body’s headquarters who deliberately sell these questions to dealers? What is actually the cause of these high leakages over the past few years?
The message that was spotted on Telegram then puts us in a corner to ask, ‘WAEC To Provide APOR TO 2024 WASSCE AND BECE Candidates?’. If there are no insiders within the walls of WAEC, then how do these questions leak?
These dealers promise candidates ditto ditto WASSCE and BECE questions which will entice and demotivate them to learn; hence, they say, “Apor will come.”.
Earlier, Ghanaeducation.org listed some measures that the entire examining body can adapt in order to curb these situations and maintain their credibility and fairness.
As we approach the final moments of the 2024 WASSCE and BECE, we urge WAEC to provide head-on solutions to these matters.
