‘Sugar Baby Riri’ Gets Nine-Year Prison Term Over Romance Scam
According to state news and reports, ‘sugar baby riri’ gets nine-year prison term over romance scam and selling a manual on how to scam men.
On Monday, a 25-year-old Japanese woman was sentenced to nine years in prison for defrauding three men of 155 million yen ($1 million) via a dating app and selling a manual on how to scam men.
The Nagoya District Court also fined Mai Watanabe, also known as “itadaki joshi Riri-chan,” or “sugar baby Riri,” 8 million yen ($51,700) for the scams.
Prosecutors sought a 13-year sentence and a 12 million yen fine.
Presiding Judge Yoichi Omura Thoughts
“The crime is a very insidious one, utilizing sweet-talking to make the victims from a dating app fall in love,” Presiding Judge Yoichi Omura said, adding that the manual “encouraged similar crimes.”
The 77-year-old Republican presidential candidate expressed sadness to reporters before entering a Manhattan courtroom. He stated, “This is a witch hunt, and it’s a shame, and it comes out of Washington.” Trump is the first former president to face criminal charges, and the case poses significant risks to him less than seven months before his election.
Prosecution witnesses are expected to include adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who claims she had s*xual encounter with Trump in 2006, which he denies, and Trump’s long-time fixer Michael Cohen.
Jury For Trump’s Case
The identity of the jury’s five women and seven men are kept hidden for their own safety. Security was tight on Monday after a man lit himself on fire outside the courthouse last week in an unconnected but grisly incident.
Trump faces 34 charges of fabricating business documents as part of a conspiracy to pay Daniels $130,000 in “hush money” to prevent an account of their alleged tryst from being published before the 2016 presidential election.
The alleged offense is less serious than the indictments arising from Trump’s attack on the 2020 presidential race, which the Republican lost to Democrat Joe Biden, and his hoarding of classified data.
Trump might face jail time in the current case, but analysts believe a fine or probation is more likely.
The trial in a dingy courtroom will keep Trump away from the campaign trail for four days a week for up to six to eight weeks, while Biden hammers him from the White House and across the country.
However, Trump has attempted to leverage the high level of media attention to energize his supporters by making frequent speeches outside of court.
