Sydney Stabbing: 6 Dead, Suspect Killed In Attack At Major Shopping Mall
Suspect killed at Sydney stabbing that happened on the night of Saturday. This incident resulted in the loss of 6 people with several injured as well.
At least six people were killed in a knife attack that occurred on Saturday at a mall near Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, according to police, who also confirmed that the attacker was shot and killed by a responding officer.
Eight other people were injured in the stabbing attack, including a nine-month-old baby. The suspect, a 40-year-old man, was identified, and according to New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb, during a press conference on Saturday, the attack is not believed to be related to terrorism.
The attack victims were identified as five women and one man. “No suggestion” that anyone was the target of the attack, according to Webb. She said, “We won’t know that for sure until later.”
“After a man was shot near Bondi Junction, a serious situation has started. Emergency services were called to Westfield Bondi Junction just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in response to allegations of several stabbings, according to a statement released by New South Wales (NSW) Police after the incident. The location is advised to be avoided by people. There are no more facts available, and investigations into the incident are still ongoing.”
Not long after the incident, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a statement.
“The AFP has updated me on the tragic events at Bondi Junction. All Australians’ first thoughts are with those affected and their loved ones as a result of the tragic reports of several casualties, according to Albanese. “Our hearts go out to those injured and we offer our thanks to those caring for them as well as our brave police and first responders.”
Reacting to the incident in Sydney, White House National Security spokesperson Adrienne Watson said that the White House is “with the people of Australia during this difficult time” and wished “speedy recovery” for those who were hurt.
“Our thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives in the horrible attack in Sydney, Australia, & we wish a speedy recovery to those who suffered injuries,” Watson wrote on social media.
The suspect, a 40-year-old male, was shot dead by a responding police officer.
