Messi captained Barcelona 2018-2021: What occurred?
The Croatian midfielder, who was a teammate of Messi at Barcelona for six years, stated that the renowned footballer was not particularly adept at instructing others on their tasks while leading the team. During his three-year captaincy from 2018 to 2021, Messi successfully led the club to a La Liga championship in 2019, taking over the armband after Andres Iniesta’s departure.
Rakitic played in that side: The words spoken by Rakitic
According to Diario AS, Rakitic expressed his belief that Messi is the greatest player in history. He further added that if Messi decided to focus on playing as a left back, he could easily become the best in the world in that position. Rakitic also acknowledged that while Messi may not always excel as a captain in terms of giving instructions, it is because he possesses a unique and distinctive approach.
Rakitic asserts that Messi’s leadership skills were not exceptional when it came to guiding his teammates. In an interview with Micspod, Rakitic stated that he didn’t need to instruct Messi on how to play the game, but rather focus on positioning himself strategically in attack to gain an advantage. He emphasized that defensive responsibilities fell on his shoulders, not Messi’s.
Interestingly, Rakitic believes that Messi had the potential to excel as a left back, highlighting his versatility and talent. However, Rakitic also acknowledges that Messi’s unique qualities made him less inclined to be an authoritative captain who would dictate what others should do.
