Grave of German Politician Wolfgang Schäuble Desecrated
International News Regarding Former German Finance Minister Wolfgang – Grave of German Politician Wolfgang Schäuble Desecrated
An investigation was started on Monday morning after city workers in the southwest city of Offenburg found a hole more than a meter deep at the grave of German politician Wolfgang Schäuble.
Schäuble, who passed away in December at the age of 81, had a casket that was not reached by the hole, which according to investigators was only 1.2 meters deep.
In collaboration with the public prosecutor’s office, the Offenburg police department’s criminal investigation unit assumed control of the case.
The officials claim that there is no information on the incident’s potential history or motivation. Witnesses are wanted by the police.
As a prominent player in Germany’s post-war history, Schäuble belonged to the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU). From 2017 to 2021, Schäuble presided over the Bundestag as its thirteenth president.
In German history, he served as the longest-serving member of a democratic parliament. For many years, the conservative politician who held the positions of finance minister and interior minister influenced German politics.
He was credited with bringing about German reunification in 1990 and guiding the eurozone through its financial crisis by enforcing strict austerity measures on Greece in 2009, among other sometimes unpopular policies.
German lawmakers have reacted with horror to reports of Schäuble’s desecrated grave.
“The desecration of Wolfgang Schäuble’s grave is a disgusting crime,” Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated. “A despicable crime that must be prosecuted severely,” she said.
Bärbel Bas, Schäuble’s replacement as president of the Bundestag, was also “deeply shocked and saddened” by the occurrence.
It is “intolerable that there are apparently people who desecrate Wolfgang Schäuble’s grave and disturb his peace,” stated the Bundestag president.
