International News About The Former President Donald Trump – Trump Guilty Verdict Fires up Some Republican Donors
Major Republican donors declared Thursday they were willing to support the first convicted criminal running for President of the United States, with at least one sending money to Donald Trump for the first time, according to approximately a dozen benefactors and fundraisers.
Many conservative funders have already seen the New York hush money funding as political persecution, reflecting the Republican presidential candidate’s accusation that Democrats are attempting to damage him ahead of the November 5 election against President Joe Biden. Prosecutors have dismissed those allegations as false. A New York jury convicted Trump guilty on Thursday of falsifying paperwork to conceal a payment to silence a porn star ahead of the 2016 election.
The ruling has prompted some contributors to increase their financial support for Trump, with at least one making a large payment to him for the first time.
Don Tapia, a former Trump ambassador to Jamaica, stated that he and a small network of relatives and friends with whom he donates expected to contribute approximately $250,000 to Trump this election.
Following Thursday’s conviction, Tapia told Reuters that the group intended to donate more than $1 million to the pro-Trump expenditure group MAGA Inc in the coming weeks.
“We’re going to go all in for him,” Tapia declared. He emailed Reuters a photo of an American flag flying upside down outside his home in Paradise Valley, Arizona, in protest of the ruling.
Shaun Maguire, a Silicon Valley tech investor, announced on social media site X following the verdict that he had donated $300,000 to support Trump.
Robert Bigelow, one of Trump’s most prominent supporters who have donated more than $9 million to an independent entity backing him, said the ruling had no effect on him. “All the charges are contrived,” Bigelow told reporters. The interviews demonstrate the breadth of Trump’s donor support despite his legal troubles, implying that he will maintain enormous financial firepower against Biden, especially from Wall Street, technology, and the oil sector.
After starting with a fundraising disadvantage against Biden, Trump outraised him for the first time in April, thanks to nationwide fundraising events. Several funders, notably casino billionaire Miriam Adelson, recently expressed their support for Trump.
Andy Sabin, a metals merchant and Republican donor who supported three different candidates in the Republican presidential primary before voting for Trump but has yet to donate to him, believes the verdict will have little impact.
Trump has been very active in fundraising in recent weeks, organizing high-end events from Texas to New York. He is scheduled to hold three fundraisers in California next month, according to invitations reviewed by Reuters, including one in left-wing San Francisco sponsored by tech venture capitalists.
