Russia’s Moscow concert attack leaves over 40 dead, many injured
A surprise attack on Russia’s Moscow concert in a busy area has led to over 40 deaths and many injuries. According to reliable information from Moscow, the attack by armed men left in its wake more than 100 injured people after the attackers indiscriminately opened fire.
The Federal Security Service in Russia and the state media provided an update, explaining that some armed individuals entered a busy area in Moscow where a concert was taking place.
Video footage released by authorities shows armed individuals who “opened fire with automatic weapons” and “threw a grenade or an incendiary bomb, which started a fire.”
RIA Novosti’s report further confirmed this. The suspects also used several grenades in the attack, which looked well planned and took the security intelligence by surprise.
In a related report by State Media Russia24, the explosives and gunshots led to the partial collapse of the roof of the venue. Russia’s Moscow concert attack happened at a time when the music concert had not started, per reports from Russia 24.
We spotted the unidentified attackers in camouflage as they broke into Crocus City Hall. Upon breaching security protocols and gaining access to the venue, they started to open fire.
“Unidentified people in camouflage broke into Crocus City Hall and started shooting before the start of the concert,” according to Russian state media outlet TASS.
Videos that have gone viral show that those within the concert area started to panic. The crowd of people at the centre of the unexpected gunfire hid for their lives as the crowd started to huddle together for safety amid loud screams.
Gunshots echoed in the vast hall, prompting others to duck behind cushioned seats.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation is expected to work 24 hours a day until safety is restored; however, the attack has been described as a “terrible tragedy” by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
“Today a terrible tragedy occurred in the Crocus City centre. My condolences to the loved ones of the victims. I gave orders to provide all necessary assistance to everyone who suffered during the incident,” Sobyanin said in a statement.

Expectations were high for a popular rock band event at Crocus City Hall, which seemingly sold out. The venue had a maximum capacity of 9000 people.
